I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on my laptop this morning and I had some issues with battery life. I decided to move to the 2.6.36 kernel and that fixed most of the issues, the only thing I still see is that the battery life is not as great as it was under 2.6.35 on my other linux installation.

It’s been a while since I last updated this, I’ve been busy with work and my studies lately and in the mean time a whole lot of projects have taken up my time so I’ve been really busy with work and a lot of work related stuff in my school. So I’ve been working with a lot of projects and of course I want to see how much I can make this a project of my own.

I’ve just decided to add a new skin to this as I’ve been working on the tasheen theme and I’ve just finished the tasheen-orange as I’ve been toying with doing a soda theme and I’ve been working on a simple theme for the time being because I haven’t decided on what I want to make.

The main purpose for the dash is to have a simple and intuitive interface to access the default applications that come with Ubuntu by default. I’ve been testing a simple “app search�

Y-axis and X-axis calculations

I wrote a function that calculates the x-axis and y-axis values for any given point:

You are given a Galton board with N rows of pegs onto which a ball is dropped. Each time a ball hits a peg, it has a probability p of bouncing to the left and a probability of 1-p of bouncing to the right. You are instructed to apply a “drop model” which means that you may drop a ball onto the board at a given time.

Following the drop model, you are given a number K of balls which you are to drop at random onto the Galton board.

You should write a program to simulate the dropping of K balls, where it is assumed that each ball will bounce off pegs according to the drop model. Your program should then compute the histogram of all the final x-coordinates for all the balls. The program should also print out the mean and variance of the final x-coordinates.

What it does:

From left to right, it asks if the user wants to continue, with p equal to the sum of the final x-coordinates minus the initial x-coordinate. This is a recursive solution, and the initial parameter e is always the current x-coordinate.

Since (in case of equality) the initial parameter e is the current x-coordinate, that implies that (in case of equality) the final x-coordinate is the same as the initial x-coordinate. Hence, the above function should return the final parameter e whenever both conditions in the if-clause are true, else continue.

Since the first parameter e is always the current x-coordinate, the if-clause corresponds to the drop model. The recursion is necessary in order to obtain the desired number K of balls, which is passed to the recursion in the second parameter n.
